These are 2006 facts taken from the blog of INDIAN ORPHANGES

  • Each year, about a million new orphans are added to the society in India.
  • There are approximately 22 million married couples that are infertile.

  • Adoptions in India are predominantly done because of the reasons of infertility.
  • Children in India are adopted under two different laws based on one's faith: Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs must adopt under a law called "Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956". Under this law, parents receive complete parental rights on the child and the adoption is irrevocable. Christians, Muslims, Parsis and the Jews must adopt under a law called "Guardian and Wards Act, 1890". Under this law, parents do not receive complete parental rights but instead receive guardianship on the child and the adoption revocable.

The beginnings of Gentle Hands of India

Starting from the ground up.

A piece of land and a building has been given to us. The building, an old orphanage, is in desperate need of renovating and redevelopment before we can house and care for the children in India.

Welcome to Gentle Hands of India

Gentle Hands India is a non-profit located just outside of the metropolis city of Chennai. Primarily focused towards the many orphans of India, Gentle Hands of India serves as an orphanage, that is currently in the works of being re-funded and renovated to house children.

There are over tens of millions orphans in India today. The reasons are many; an alcoholic or drug addict parent dies, terrorism and tribal fighting leaving a child parentless. Many children are thrown into the forced labor and girls specifically the sex trade industry.

There are many amazing NGOs doing their part in helping stop the cycles and giving children a chance at a better life. We are but one of the many, following the call of God to be father to the fatherless, and to look after the widows and orphans.

Gentle Hands India. Join us today in helping the lives of children across India.
